Two saves in draw
Williams had two saves and allowed one goal in Thursday's 1-1 draw against Czech Republic.
Analysis: Williams was beaten early when Michael Sadilek found the back of the net from very close range, but he looked solid and responded the rest of the way. He doesn't carry much fantasy upside since he's now allowed three goals in two matches, but he should remain in the XI when South Africa takes on South Korea in their group-stage finale on Wednesday, June 24.
Beaten twice in WC opener
Williams registered two saves and allowed two goals in Thursday's 2-0 defeat versus Mexico.
Analysis: There wasn't much Williams could've done in either of the two goals he conceded, as both Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez scored with ease from close range. Despite allowing two goals, Williams was probably the best player for an underwhelming South African side. The veteran goalkeeper should remain as the starter between the posts against the Czech Republic on June 18.
Brings experience in goal
Williams will likely serve as South Africa's starting goalkeeper at the World Cup after being the team's primary option in continental competitions and qualifiers.
Analysis: Williams heads into the World Cup as one of Africa's most accomplished goalkeepers following another successful campaign at the club level with Mamelodi Sundowns. The veteran remains his country's undisputed starter thanks to his consistency, reflexes and leadership that could help in high-pressure matches. He has made 62 international appearances, including his most recent involvement in the AFCON, where he tallied nine saves and conceded six goals across four games. While his clean sheet chances may be unreliable given South Africa's underdog status, Williams should have plenty of opportunities to pile up saves and potentially emerge as one of the tournament's busier shot stoppers.
